skunkworx@kingwoodcable.com has written a qmail howto: http://www.skunkworx.org/guides/QmailOnGentoo.txt we should try and get this converted to xml and included on our site as official documentation.
I'll do this.
The URL no longer seems to work for one, and secondly, I'm predicting this is going to be very out of date by the time -r12 or -r13 makes it to ~x86 even.
Any news on this? If I don't hear anything at the end of the week, I'm going to mark this as WONTFIX. If the author still wants to have this document online as official Gentoo documentation, please contact me asap regarding updating the guide and maintenance.

Better late than never, I hope. I'm the author of the "Qmail on Gentoo" guide, and I apologize for never responding to this bug report. A while back I had submitted a draft of the guide to the Gentoo documentation mailing list, using the documentation XML format, but didn't hear anything back about that and ended up putting it out of my mind. Still, I am still working on the guide, and just today I finished what I consider to be the essentials for installing and configuring 1.03-r13. I am still willing to contribute this to the official documentation, and, work permitting, I plan on fleshing it out further, and keeping it updated as newer ebuilds are put in the stable tree. The URL is still the same. I don't know why it wouldn't have worked, unless my web host was down at the time: http://www.skunkworx.org/guides/QmailOnGentoo.txt
skunkworx: before you do, could you review the current guide on qmail and see how much could possibly be integrated ?
skunkworx: Good to see you've updated your guide. As the Gentoo qmail maintainer (and the auther of the crazy conf-* stuff To go with my work, I originally started writing this document: http://www.orbis-terrarum.net/~robbat2/guidexml/mailsolution.html if you'd care to incorporate the mysql/vpopmail/courier-imap stuff, i'd be grateful. also you may want to add another note about /var/qmail/control/servercert.cnf into your encrypted smtp section.
now we've got three documents ;) heres the one i wrote http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/qmail-howto.xml
Now I see just how far behind I've fallen! I plan to spend some time turning "Qmail on Gentoo" into an easier-to-read web page using Gentoo's XML, but before I resubmit the guide I'll read through the other docs and see how everything might be integrated. I'm even willing to do the integration, though at this point I can't make any hard promises on when I could get something done.
One last comment, for the sake of completeness: I am no longer actively maintaining my documentation. I'm sorry to say that I no longer have the time and attention needed to work on this properly. For anybody who wishes to work with my guide, I have released it under the same license as Gentoo's official documentation, the Creative Commons Attribute-ShareAlike license.
