The vlc-0.5.2 ebuild seems to use the directfb use flag when it should just use
fbcon flag. afaik vlc has no directfb support at all.

Also the ebuild has been updated without any of the newer features of vlc.

i submitted an ebuild here http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15916 which
enables a lot of the stuff (the important bit being the libavcodec support
making vlc a more general purpose media player)
