PlanetMirror has a mirror of the Gentoo Portage archive, and would like to arrange for this mirror to become official. The archive is fetched every 30 minutes, and can be accessed via rsync.planetmirror.com::gentoo-portage/ or rsync.planetmirror.com::gentoo-x86-portage/ as per the setup instructions. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
I added your IP address (203.16.234.32) to the list of IPs authorized to rsync from rsync1.us.gentoo.org. Please update your server to point at that server. Once that's done, let me know here and I'll keep an eye on it for the next couple of days to make sure everything is kosher and then I'll add you to the rsync rotation at which point you should start seeing traffic. Let me know if you have any questions.
added as a reference for when we add this to the rsync rotation: > Secondly, just to let you know that "rsync.planetmirror.com" actually > resolves to two IP addresses for load balancing purposes - I don't know > how this may or may not affect your setup, but the IPs there are > 203.16.234.31 and 203.16.234.32 (perhaps a CNAME between > rsyncX.au.gentoo.org to rsync.planetmirror.com?).
A couple of questions if I may. 1) Just wondering what the approximate disk usage should be for the gentoo and gentoo-portage mirrors. I ask because we currently have about 33G used, and if it's possible to free up some of that stuff (if it's older or no longer required) we'd like to; albeit temporarily. 2) I noticed that we receive two copies of mail sent to gentoo-mirrors. Just curious if there are two email's subsribed (mirror@planetmirror.com and mirror-gentoo@planetmirror.com) - if this is the case, can you remove mirror@planetmirror.com from the list please? :) Cheers Dan
1) Currently a full distfile mirror takes about 33GB. :) As a *temporary* way of reducing space, you can get rid of the releases directory which should cut the necessary space by 40% or so. However, we do ask that all official mirrors (the ones listed on gentoo.org) maintain a full mirror of all necessary files, so if this was going to be a permanent deletion, we'd ask that you inform us so we can remove you from gentoo.org. 2) oops. :)
Thanks Kurt. With regards to 1) We're happy to leave the releases directory for now. Just curious if there are any hard or soft links that can perhaps be created between within the area. We're basically just trying to ensure we make optimal use of our available disk space. -Dan
You should gain some disk space back soon - after I get in touch with a couple people and we're fully settled in on the new home of the master distfiles repository, I'm going to set about cleaning up old distfiles as much as possible.
