Description PlanetMirror Admins 2003-02-27 17:34:34 UTC
PlanetMirror has a mirror of the Gentoo Portage archive, and would like to
arrange for this mirror to become official. The archive is fetched every 30
minutes, and can be accessed via or as per the setup instructions.

I added your IP address ( to the list of IPs authorized to rsync from Please update your server to point at that server.

Once that's done, let me know here and I'll keep an eye on it for the next couple of days to make sure everything is kosher and then I'll add you to the rsync rotation at which point you should start seeing traffic.

Let me know if you have any questions.

added as a reference for when we add this to the rsync rotation:

A couple of questions if I may.

1) Just wondering what the approximate disk usage should be for the gentoo and gentoo-portage mirrors. I ask because we currently have about 33G used, and if it's possible to free up some of that stuff (if it's older or no longer required) we'd like to; albeit temporarily.

2) I noticed that we receive two copies of mail sent to gentoo-mirrors. Just curious if there are two email's subsribed ( and - if this is the case, can you remove from the list please? :)

1) Currently a full distfile mirror takes about 33GB. :) As a *temporary* way of reducing space, you can get rid of the releases directory which should cut the necessary space by 40% or so. However, we do ask that all official mirrors (the ones listed on maintain a full mirror of all necessary files, so if this was going to be a permanent deletion, we'd ask that you inform us so we can remove you from

2) oops. :)

Thanks Kurt. With regards to 1)

We're happy to leave the releases directory for now. Just curious if there are any hard or soft links that can perhaps be created between within the area. We're basically just trying to ensure we make optimal use of our available disk space.

You should gain some disk space back soon - after I get in touch with a couple people and we're fully settled in on the new home of the master distfiles repository, I'm going to set about cleaning up old distfiles as much as possible.
