Description Falk Dechent 2007-01-27 08:13:41 UTC
I updated to kde 3.5.6 and during the only package that doenÄt compile is kde-base/pykde-3.5.6

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
trying to emerge
kde-base/pykde

The same problem, after updating whole kde-base 3.5.5 to 3.5.6, pykde is the only package that won't compile.

Had the same problem. Updating dev-python/sip from 4.2.1 to 4.2.1-r1 solved it for me.
Comment 5 Falk Dechent 2007-01-28 16:02:15 UTC
okay this works so well the next step bevor change the resolution to fied would be to modify the ebuild for pykde.

Who will do it or send me a tutorial *g*?

Comment 6 Jan-Peter Arndt 2007-01-28 16:49:09 UTC
The depenency for sip in the ebuild is OK in my eyes. As long as your dev-python/sip is ~x86 and pulled in as depenency for pykde and not by /var/lib/portage/world portage should do everything right. I can imagine that if sip is in your world file the depenencies let you oscillate between two versions.
This works for me on ~x86 (and x86 with kde ~x86 in package.keywords)

Well I'm new to gentoo, (2 month, first bug report) but in my opinion the dependency is not okay.
When I emerge pykde (~x86) and emerge doesn't realize that my sip version is not matching, tries to build the code AND fails - that's not okay.

In other cases emerge stops while checking the depenencies. And reclaims missing keywords or so.

So did you test that it works with sip 4.3.2 and 4.5.2-r1 ?
Comment 10 Elias Probst 2007-02-19 22:22:16 UTC
Ok, you're right... it doesn't work using 4.3.2. It breaks also PyQt-3.14.1-r2:

I don't know if this helps, but pykde wants to downgrade two packages when it's installed:

emerge -pv kde-base/pykde

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies ... done!
[ebuild UD] dev-python/sip-4.2.1 [4.5.2-r1] USE="doc%* -debug" 0 kB

Even when you accept the downgrade, the compilation of pykde still spills its guts all over the place.
Comment 20 drumz 2007-08-20 12:47:20 UTC
I should have included that in my previous post - it still has the same error no matter what happens for me too.

A friend of mine was able to successfully upgrade it based on the following:

"I had to re-emerge PyQt to get pykde to compile and I had to use the
newest version of sip, 4.7."

I tried that (both recompiling PyQt and emerging sip v4.7) and it did NOT work for me. But he didn't specify if it was the kde-base/pykde or the dev-python/pykde package.
Comment 21 drumz 2007-08-20 18:43:08 UTC
My friend returned my email and he has dev-python/pykde installed, NOT kde-base/pykde. So the instructions in the previous post apply ONLY to dev-python/pykde.

I am trying to build pykde-3.5.7 on amd64. It gives the error below when compiling with PyQt-3.14.1-r1 and sip-4.2.1. Any ideas for a fix?

Python herd, can you help us here?
Comment 24 Sam Wouters 2007-10-05 10:33:49 UTC
Updating dev-python/sip-4.2.1 to 4.2.1-r1 did the trick also for pykde-3.5.7 on amd64. I did had to unmask >dev-python/sip-4.2.1 in package.mask (don't know how it got there).

Comment 25 Ed Goforth 2007-10-23 04:42:42 UTC
I have been trying to get kde-base/pykde to update for several weeks. Here's the latest iteration:
I unmerged sip and PyQt, then did emerge -uv kde-base/pykde, which attempted to upgrade from kde-base/pykde-3.5.5-r2 to kde-base/pykde-3.5.7, and also brought in dev-python/sip-4.2.1 and dev-python/PyQt-3.14.1-r2. These are the compilation errors:

Python herd, if you have any ideas about this mess, I'd be really glad to hear about them. :)

I've just checked in a version of pykde-3.5.8 that compiles cleanly and works for me. I'd really like to hear about your experiences.

uhm, while compiling, i see this:

*** True KDE version is 0x30508 -- building for KDE 0x30503 ***
KDE version is 3.5.3 (0x30503)

is ths correct? sounds strange!

Just doing the "pretend" emerge, I get this:

===============================================================================
memphis ~ # ACCEPT_KEYWORDS='~amd64' emerge -pu kde-base/pykde

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

This would downgrade both PyQt and sip, which is not really acceptable.

The emerge looks even uglier if one uses --deep as well.

Dieter, please try emerging these versions before emerge pykde-3.5.8:

=dev-python/sip-4.6
=dev-python/PyQt-3.17.2

Yes, pykde sucks that much. It's correct.

You need to sync before trying, of course. :-)

Then you're most likely out of luck if you want to use pykde. It works for me using =dev-python/sip-4.6 and =dev-python/PyQt-3.17.2. If that works for others as well, I'll restrict the deps to these versions.

> The emerge looks even uglier if one uses --deep as well.

You should *always* use --deep when updating.

> You should *always* use --deep when updating.

Why? Using --deep means that there are more packages that will need rebuilding (Those that depend on the deep dependencies). I see no reason why one can't update top-level packages without updating deep dependencies if the ebuild allows for that.

I have synced twice now. It seems some of our European mirrors are a few hours behind.

Well, this is what the "pretend" looks like now, with --deep specified:

That's a full update of KDE, most of X.Org, chunks of GNOME, plus a few of the system packages as well. Phew!

I think I'll wait until these various packages are formally stabilised, as I am down to 1 computer at the moment and want as few unstable packages as possible.

Thanks for letting us know. I've been able to reproduce the problem you reported earlier today and have committed an updated ebuild with more restrictive dependencies so once you have sync, things should keep working when you update.

I'm going to take a look at pykde-3.5.7 later today.

uhm, pykde 3.5.7 worked for me like this:
/etc/portage/package.mask

>dev-python/qscintilla-1.5.1
>dev-python/sip-4.2.1-r1
>dev-python/PyQt-3.14.1-r2

HTH

For me (on amd64) 3.5.8 works with:

/etc/portage/package.unmask:
=kde-base/pykde-3.5.8

/etc/portage/package.mask:
>dev-python/PyQt-3.17.2
>dev-python/sip-4.6

/etc/portage/package.keywords:
dev-python/PyQt ~amd64
dev-python/sip ~amd64

...emerge is successful and also KatchTV (an app that use PyKDE) seems to work normally.

kde-base/pykde-3.5.9 also works for me on AMD64

Closing as this issues seems to be fixed with newer versions. Reopen if it still happens :)
