Description James Gilliland 2006-10-09 12:13:30 UTC
The combination of the nvidia packages has lead to some lost functionality. Chroots do not have the need to build kernel modules and previously this could be avoided. However now the must be built requiring more cruft in the chroot and more work preparing the kernel.

It would be nice if this functionality could be returned through a "kernelmodule" use flag (or something similar) that would be enabled by default but allowed to be disabled for users in situations like a chroot where only the gl drivers are wanted.

We can't enable a flag by default except by bloating the profiles' make.defaults with yet another flag, and no* flags plain suck. IOW, not even remotely worth the hassle.

I don't think it is worth the effort to code/maintain.

~600K and 1 minute of compile time won't kill you. ;]

Actually size wise the annoyance is the 250M kernel that wasn't previously needed.
