This seems to have become a pretty common issue recently, but comes from libwww and not tetex. I have libwww-5.4.0-r6 with -mysql +ssl as USEs and it installs /usr/lib/libwwwdir.a Can you check that you have this version and this file, please?
*** Bug 150206 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Just re-emerge libwww, no idea what's wrong with that one.
I unmerged and re-emerged libwww and this is the result: # emerge -pv libwww These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done! [ebuild R ] net-libs/libwww-5.4.0-r6 USE="ssl -mysql" 0 kB Total size of downloads: 0 kB # ls -l /usr/lib/libwwwdir.* ls: /usr/lib/libwwwdir.*: No such file or directory
Apparently not a tetex bug.
I have absolutely no idea of what's going on... Can someone with no libwwwdir.la please attach a full log of an emerge of libwww, please?
Attach `equery files net-libs/libwww` as well please.
This one is definitely weird emerge libwww fails to install the files while ebuild /usr/portage/net-libs/libwww/libwww-5.4.0-r6.ebuild install does not fail Doing a diff of the output from the emerge and ebuild commands shows the following error in the emerge process: (cd /var/tmp/portage/libwww-5.4.0-r6/work/w3c-libwww-5.4.0/Library/src; /bin/sh ../../libtool --mode=relink i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -O2 -march=i686 -pipe -Wall -version-info 1:0:1 -o libwwwdir.la -rpath /usr/lib HTIcons.lo HTDescpt.lo HTDir.lo libwwwhtml.la -ldl -lz -L/usr/lib -lssl -lcrypto -inst-prefix-dir /var/tmp/portage/libwww-5.4.0-r6/image/) i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -shared .libs/HTIcons.o .libs/HTDescpt.o .libs/HTDir.o -L/var/tmp/portage/libwww-5.4.0-r6/image//usr/lib -L/usr/lib -lwwwhtml -ldl -lz -lssl -lcrypto -march=i686 -Wl,-soname -Wl,libwwwdir.so.0 -o .libs/libwwwdir.so.0.1.0 /usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/4.1.1/../../../../i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: cannot find -lwwwhtml collect2: ld returned 1 exit status libtool: install: error: relink `libwwwdir.la' with the above command before installing it You can find the output from both commands at d.g.o/~fuzzyray/libwww.emerge.txt and libwww.ebuild.txt
Created attachment 98888 [details] equery files libwww output
The explanation is that when you run `ebuild libwww merge`, you already had installed libwww because you run `emerge libwww` before. The problem resides in the fact that libwwwhtml is being moved to image after libwwwdir. If you emerge twice libwww, then it will work. So the obvious solution would be to make libwwwhtml to be moved to image before libwwwdir tries to link to it.
Ah, makes sense. So the workaround is to emerge libwww twice until this gets fixed.
Created attachment 98913 [details] libwww-5.4.0-r7.ebuild I've attached an ebuild that adds -L. to the linking line, it should solve the issue. Another cleaner way would be to change -lwwwhtml to libwwwhtml.a but I didn't find any easy way to do it. Please test (without libwww already merged) and report.
Created attachment 98926 [details] libwww-5.4.0-r7.ebuild (corrected) I shouldn't have posted in a hurry, the sed line was in the wrong place. Should be corrected now but I haven't had time to test it myself.
This doesn't solve it either... We'd need a libtool expert, as this seems the issue here (the line between parenthesis generates the "wrong" call to gcc with -lwwwhtml, changing it to have .libs/libwwwhtml.so works). I also believe that it is a recent change in libtool that brought this as we had no previous problem with libwww and I don't think their code changed. I'll have a look soon but if someone more knowledgeable in libtool wants to try, it'd be very welcome.
@vapier - ideas? :)
this problem was caused by the asneeded patches ... while proper dependencies were declared with LIBADD, the order of lib_LTLIBRARIES was not updated so the build system tries to build libwwwdir.la before libwwwhttp.la fix is to re-order lib_LTLIBRARIES so that libraries appear in the proper order should be all set in libwww-5.4.0-r7
I've confirmed that libwww-5.4.0-r7 builds and works on my x86 test system. Question: Since libwww-5.4.0-r6 fails to build completely, do we want to request marking this version stable earlier than the 30 days?
Go ahead.
*** Bug 151096 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Arch teams, please consider marking net-libs/libwww-5.4.0-r7 stable. This version fixes a bug in net-libs/libwww-5.4.0-r6 that failed to install the libwwwdir libraries.
vapier: did you revert flameeyes' automake-1.4 restriction on purpose? From Changelog it appears he tried WANT_AUTOMAKE="latest" and found it did not always work.
if it doesnt work then file a bug and i'll fix it
flameeyes said he only saw failures on a system that turned out to be dying, so probably automake verision is not a real issue. stable on ppc

a simple rev-deprebuild fixed my problem :p although i don't know how i could have broken it.
Stable on x86, AT's thanks for the testing.
I'm having the same issue as OxO pHz.60... although revdep-rebuild said my system was up to date and didn't fix the problem. :( * Running eautoreconf in '/var/tmp/portage/libwww-5.4.0-r7/work/w3c-libwww-5.4.0' ... * Requested autoconf 2.5 * Using autoconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.59 * Using autoheader (GNU Autoconf) 2.59 * Requested automake 1.10 * Using automake (GNU automake) 1.4-p6 * Using aclocal (GNU automake) 1.4-p6 * Running aclocal ... (In reply to comment #42) > I had the same issue as well, but with my last "emerge --sync", I received a copy of the autotools.eclass file dated Oct 26. My emerge of the libwww package is now proceeding past the automake error. Try an "emerge --sync" and see if the problem is resolved with the new autotools.eclass in /usr/portage/eclass/
