Description Joacim Jacobsson 2006-07-18 03:04:36 UTC
When I start gnome, I always get a dialog that the "gnome settings demon" failed to start and another dialog telling me the the mixer-applet is bonkers. I dont have the actual texts available at the moment, will provide them later.

After employing my awesome detective skills (no not realy...) I found the to be caused by gstreamer acting up. I found that the problem can be replicated by running 'gst-inspect-0.10'.

It will then produce the following:
==================================================================
ERROR: Caught a segmentation fault while loading plugin file:
/usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstvideotestsrc.so

Please either:
- remove it and restart.
- run with --gst-disable-segtrap and debug.
staticelements:  bin: Generic bin
staticelements:  pipeline: Pipeline object

Total count: 1 plugin, 2 features
==================================================================

revdep-rebuil, cflags, sacrifices to heathen god's, proding with sharp sticks and not to mention numerous re-merges has not aleviated this problem in the least.

I'm not enterly sure what else I need to provide, but ask and you shall receive.
