from the tetex website: "I (Thomas Esser) have decided not to make new releases of teTeX any more (May 2006). The information below might get out of date as time goes by. I suggest anybody interested in teTeX to join the TeX Live project." I just wanted to give a heads-up that you should think about migration from tetex to texlive. there are a lot of other packages dependent on (te-)tex. moreover texlive is still masked as unstable. texlive should be in the final stages of a new release---I can post when I hear back from karl berry if there is interest. (I know this because I paid a bounty on a new feature, which will make it into the next release; not because I know anything about internals.) hope this helps. /iaw

There is a migration guide at http://dev.gentoo.org/~aballier/migrationhowto.xml, though it still awaits official approval in bug 198068 at the moment.
