Description Darren Dale 2006-02-05 13:59:05 UTC
The new version of ESP ghostscript, 8.15, breaks pdftops, which is provided by poppler. Recent versions of AFPL and GPL ghostscript do not break pdftops. Here are the contents of a ps file generated with pdftops using ghostscript-esp-8.15

I cannot reproduce this. What version of poppler are you using?
Comment 2 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-02-05 15:06:46 UTC
oops, you mean you are trying to use pdf2ps ;)
well, I cannot reproduce that here either.
Is it maybe pdf-specific?

No, I mean pdftops, which is provided by poppler-0.5.0-r4.

> well, I cannot reproduce that here either.
> Is it maybe pdf-specific?

That could be true. I have reproduced the problem on x86 and amd64. Consistently, pdftops does not work with this version of ghostscript, but all other versions that I have tried are fine.

May I attach a pdf file to this bug report?

does pdf2ps work?

You can attach a pdf here, if you like.

Yes, it does. I can't use it in general, because it converts everything to low-level postscript.

a pdf file that causes pdftops to fail

I have tried to convert a few different pdf files, of different origins, and all have failed using pdftops. I'm attaching one small example.

I really cannot reproduce this here. Can you please post your emerge info?

Also try to remerge ghostscript-esp, poppler and poppler-bindings, please

Could you be more specific, I'm not sure what you are referring to.

> Also try to remerge ghostscript-esp, poppler and poppler-bindings, please

I tried, no improvement.

I am sorry to cause trouble.

> is there a configuration file for gs?

I have no idea. I scanned the output of "slocate ghostscript" and didnt see anything. I havent changed any configuration myself.

It is clearly not of any help to have this around here and no one has an idea.

I suggest we move this to upstream, please file a bug in the ghostscript-esp bugzilla: http://www.cups.org/espgs/str.php?L+P0+S-2+C0+I0+E0+Q

and post the link here
