I installed ndiswrapper 1.7 with a new 2.6.14 kernel (due to compilation issue between ndiswrapper 1.2 and kernel 2.6.14) However, the box is freezing within the first 5 minutes after using network. (heavy network load seems to accelerate the freezing process) I cannot ssh the box from another computer, the only answer is to hard shutdown the machine. I am not in front of my box and i will post emerge info this evening
Does it work with kernel 2.6.15?
I only tried with 2.6.13-gentoo-r3, 2.6.14-gentoo and 2.6.14-ck7 Do you think i should test with 2.6.15 ? my emerge --info (classical except maybe SMP) : Portage 2.1_pre3-r1 (default-linux/x86/2005.0, gcc-3.4.5, glibc-2.3.5-r3, 2.6.13-gentoo-r3 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.13-gentoo-r3 i686 AMD Athlon(TM) MP 2400+ Gentoo Base System version 1.12.0_pre12 dev-lang/python: 2.2.3-r5, 2.3.5, 2.4.2 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.17 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r7 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1-r1 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r3 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=athlon-mp -O2 -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/texmf/web2c /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon-mp -O2 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://ftp.gentoo.skynet.be/pub/gentoo/ http://ftp.easynet.nl/mirror/gentoo/ http://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/gentoo http://gentoo.mirror.sdv.fr" LANG="fr_FR@euro" LC_ALL="fr_FR@euro" LINGUAS="fr" MAKEOPTS="-j3" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/usr/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="3dnow 3dnowex 3dnowext X a52 aac aalib acl acpi alsa apm arts artswrappersuid asf audiofile avi bash-completion berkdb bigger-fonts bindist bitmap-fonts bonobo bootsplash browserplugin bzip2 cdparanoia cdr chroot crypt cscope cups curl dga directfb divx4linux dts dv dvb dvd dvdr dvdread eds emboss encode esd evo exif expat fam fbcon ffmpeg flac foomaticdb fortran gd gdbm ggi gif glut gmp gnome gphoto2 gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 gtkhtml guile hal idn imagemagick imap imlib ipv6 jack java jikes jpeg junit kde kdeenablefinal kdexdeltas kipi lcms libcaca libg++ libwww lirc lm_sensors mad matroska mikmod mmx mmxext mng mono motif mozilla mp3 mpeg nas ncurses nls nptl nvidia ogg oggvorbis openal opengl oss pam pcre pdflib perl png python qt quicktime readline real ruby samba scanner sdl slang slp speex spell sqlite sse ssl svga tcltk tcpd tetex theora tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts udev unicode usb vorbis win32codecs x86 xine xml xml2 xmms xosd xv xvid zlib elibc_glibc kernel_linux linguas_fr userland_GNU" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LDFLAGS
It is worth a try, I guess .. it could solve your problem ..
(In reply to comment #3) > It is worth a try, I guess .. it could solve your problem .. > however 2.6.15 is not out yet for gentoo-sources or ck-sources I guess I will try with vanilla

(I am doing that atm).

I just tried 2.6.15-ck1 Everything is running fine after mass network 10 min test. I will let the box run this night and let you know tomorrow morning.
sorry, the box has frozen within 20 min. I came back to ndiswrapper 1.2
Please test ndiswrapper-1.2-r1
where do I get it ? (In reply to comment #9) > Please test ndiswrapper-1.2-r1 > where do i get it ? In my portage, I can only see 1.2, 1.5 and 1.7

This means that it will be available to you in an hour or two with emerge sync. http://dev.gentoo.org/~plasmaroo/devmanual//general-concepts/cvs-to-rsync/ http://packages.gentoo.org/search/?sstring=ndiswrapper
it is working fine with ndiswrapper-1.2-r1 does it help to deliver a working 1.7 ?
I should have remembered to mention this in the first place but this is an upstream issue any way and you should report it to the upstream developers. Good to hear that 1.2-r1 works for you. I will most likely be marking it stable. I kept this bug open this long because I was considering 1.7 going stable in bug #111029. Let's hope the next upstream release works better for you.
