Scenario: 1. Booted Gentoo 2005.1 LiveCD. 2. Chose "gentoo" kernel. 3. Got verbose mode to display after a few seconds. 4. Keyboard failed to function once LiveCD reached keymap selection. Tried the nokeymap flag, and it still didn't work. I've tried two keyboards and I even went so far as to go back to the 2005.0 release. Neither worked. ASUS A8N-E (Nforce4 chipset) AMD 64 3000 1gb DDR-400 Dual-Channel 80gb WD SATA HDD Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Insert Gentoo 2005.x release LiveCD. 2. Choose "gentoo" kernel. Actual Results: Keyboard no longer works after LiveCD asks to choose a keymap. Expected Results: Keyboard should've worked flawlessly considering that neither set of keyboards used is multimedia or "special" in any way. I have a hunch that this may be a chipset communication error on the part of Linux, but I may be wrong. Friend of mine told me that this may be a "one in a billion" configuration that just "happens" to not work with Gentoo's LiveCD.
This was an x86 CD on an Athlon 64? Is your keyboard USB or PS/2?

Also, does the mouse work? I'm willing to bet that it is some fun command line option to the kernel that will fix this. You can always try the following: "gentoo-nofb noapic nolapic nosmp acpi=off nokeymap"
Will try those command-lines shortly. And the only things USB on my computer are my MS mouse and my Saitek joystick. Regular PS/2 keyboard.

You can always try the following: > > "gentoo-nofb noapic nolapic nosmp acpi=off nokeymap" I used those exact command-line options, and the keyboard still doesn't work. I'm not sure the mouse works either, since the LiveCD doesn't use it for 99.9% of most operations anyways. The only remaining option, at least that I was told about by a friend, is to buy a PS/2>USB adapter, or buy a USB keyboard... but I'm really not at liberty to go spend $20 on a keyboard at the moment. Maybe someone could pass this on to the dev team and let them know about this issue so it can be fixed in a later release? Thanks.
I *am* the developer for x86. Anyway, you should have complete mouse control once you hit the command prompt, keyboard or not. If you aren't getting that far, then I'm willing to bet that the machine is stalling somewhere else. Are you getting a root prompt or is it stopping somewhere along the way? Also, you never answered my other question. This is an x86 CD, correct?

It's the "Universal" gentoo LiveCD that you can install from. And yes, I do get the root prompt, but I'm not able to type anything in once it gets past the keymap selection thing. (And sorry... I'm not used to this whole Bugzilla thing... used to forums with users helping users, not actual developers being in the thick of it.)
Can you type at the keymap selection screen? Do you get a moving mouse cursor on the screen when you move the mouse once the root prompt has come up? Are you using a KVM of any kind? Are you using a US keyboard, or something else?

Not using any KVM's or anything of that nature, nor did I try to move the mouse during the LiveCD bootup. I'm using a standard US keyboard, and I am not able to select anything at the keymap prompt, nor the root prompt.
We just released a new 2005.1-r1 CD that has an updated kernel and is using an updated genkernel build. Could you verify that this problem still exists with that CD?
Unable to confirm or deny bug still exists. Computer on which Gentoo was installed and running recently recieved a USB keyboard to replace the ps/2 one. Shortly thereafter, the PSU blew a fuse. Will try to confirm later this week or next week after a new PSU is installed. Thanks!
Well, I never heard back form you. Also, I know that 2006.0's keymap selection is broken (in a different way) thanks to bug #124388
