WW2D allows you to explore Earth using satellite imagery, topographic maps and image from other data sources also providing large placenames and boundaries database and allowing you to install community-made add-ons for even more information about our planet.) http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-377273-highlight-ww2d.html?sid=1100e00db43defe74c0ca2fbb5b47cff This program looks really cool: http://ww2d.berlios.de/ Basically it is a application like Google Earth using the NASA World Wind data. Maybe there is someone who is interested in this program too, and would consider creating a gentoo ebuild? I and certainly many others would appreciate that (unfortunately I do not have the skills to create an ebuild). Thanks for reading, Kalli Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
It's still experimental - even the choice of implementation language hasn't been stabilized, see the bottom of http://ww2d.berlios.de/forum.php?action=vthread&forum=4&topic=20014 and http://ww2d.berlios.de/forum.php?action=vthread&forum=4&topic=20016
Looks like the language of the implementation is chosen by now; Java. This turns the request into 2 ebuilds I think, it requires the jogl library to be put somewhere in a java vm subdir... Unfortunately i know nothing about all the java stuff so i hope someone can pick up and start on ebuilds...

ww2d needs dev-java/jogl, bug 50178 and bug 71804. This is blocked by upstream https://jogl.dev.java.net/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=121 - make some noise there if you want this to be added.
i read the sun "bug", and the ebuilds regarding jogl.... this is kind of silly, imo. there's no reason there can't be an ebuild in portage that asks for the file to be downlaoded and put into the distfiles like other packages. then we can move on and make an ebuild for this.
I'd like to second that. We should really try to find a way forward with this rather than just waiting for someone else to "fix" it. I am sure that with some imagination we can make a working ebuild.

Marking this CANTFIX meanwhile, it has a dependency that cannot get into portage as it is, also there's no ebuild here.

Reopening this one as jogl upstream has addressed the issue.
They don't have source releases on their web page and can't reach their cvs atm so there isn't a way to make an ebuild currently until the CVS server comes back up. http://ww2d.cvs.sourceforge.net/ww2d
They have a source version in SourceForge: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=69528
(In reply to comment #16) > They have a source version in SourceForge: > http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=69528 > That one is a different code base as it seems to be written in C#. But they do have a recent release so we first need to check if the Java version is even alive any more.

Seems this project has died. Last known URL: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ww2d/, Last update was on 2009-07-18. Can this bug be rejected?
This project is too old to be packaged. According to [1], the last release is from 2006. Closing this bug. [1] http://sourceforge.net/projects/ww2d/files/?source=navbar
