Eclipse 3.1 has severe problems with GTK+ 2.6.8 or higher. Please see https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=107013 for more information. There is a bug in GTK+ 2.6.7 with regards to focus (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109246). Eclipse 3.1 provides a workaround for this problem. In GTK+ 2.6.8 and GTK+ 2.8.0, Owen Taylor provides a fix in GTK+ itself for the problem. However, the fix appears to interact poorly with our workaround. As a result, Eclipse 3.1 is rather badly broken. We are considering providing a fix for our maintenance release, 3.1.1, which we expect to be available at the end of September.
With the recent unmasking of x11-libs/gtk+-2.6.8, dev-util/eclipse-sdk is now broken in portage.
eclipse 3.1 is working fine here ( gtk 2.8.3 ). Can you still reproduce this error?
It should work with Eclipse 3.2 M2 (including the most recent I-builds) and Eclipse 3.1.1 (including the most recent M-builds). 3.1 itself won't work with 2.6.8, and I believe it doesn't work with any higher version either (though I haven't tried myself; this is just based on what code they've committed to which branches)
Note that the bug is that all of the keybindings sometimes go away, and keyboard input stops working. So far, it has only been reproducable when running under kwin, and has to do with switching windows using Alt-Tab or switching desktops.
Eclipse-3.1.1 is out. I've submitted a request for a version bump at: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=108348 According to a post above, 3.1.1 should fix this issue, so perhaps this bug should be marked as depending on #108348? I don't know, so I'm leaving it for now.
For me (amd64) eclipse 1.3.1 fixed the crashes.
this is resolved now ( talked to karltk and upstream said it was resolved in gtk 2.6.8 )
