Description sam clanton 2002-08-20 14:07:52 UTC
I am having problems getting gentoo-sources to build the gentoo-patched kernel.
 It retrieves the linux-gentoo-2.4.19-r7 patch (successfully, it seems), then
tries to do it again, then one more time, and it gives me

'The file is already retrieved; nothing to do'

which would be ok, except that it then gives me 'Couldn't download
linux-gentoo-2.4.19-gentoo-r7.patch.bz2' and exits out. The file exists in
distfiles/ and is the correct size.

I'm new to gentoo and just trying it out so I don't want to go too far into the
problem (at this point). Just wanted to let you know that there's something
funky going on when I tried to use the install instructions. Everything was
fine up until this point (I started from scratch with a stage 1 install). I was
able to emerge vanilla-sources just fine as well.
Apologies in advance if I am doing something stupid here (although I'm pretty
sure I did this by the book except for w/my pcmcia wireless card)

I too had this same problem today and am equally baffled.

I also found it odd that the downloaded patch was corrupt (output below).

$ bunzip2 linux-gentoo-2.4.19-gentoo-r7.patch.bz2

bunzip2: Compressed file ends unexpectedly;
        perhaps it is corrupted? *Possible* reason follows.
bunzip2: No such file or directory
        Input file = linux-gentoo-2.4.19-gentoo-r7.patch.bz2, output file =
linux-gentoo-2.4.19-gentoo-r7.patch

It is possible that the compressed file(s) have become corrupted.
You can use the -tvv option to test integrity of such files.

You can use the `bzip2recover' program to attempt to recover
data from undamaged sections of corrupted files.

bunzip2: Deleting output file linux-gentoo-2.4.19-gentoo-r7.patch, if it exists.

I haven't an idea... can't reproduce this
Comment 5 Martin Holzer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-09-04 11:44:39 UTC
you can't cause linux-gentoo-2.4.19-gentoo-r7.patch.bz2 is now greater than
about 600 kbyte !!!!

i think you can close this bug
Comment 6 Brandon Low (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-09-06 18:21:36 UTC
was a mirroring problem... besides there is a new gentoo-sources ebuild to play
with now :)
