I did the bootstrap of stage1 with knoppix 3.3, and it failed with the line ' cannot populate /dev : disk full ' a bunch of times.... the harddisk certainly wasnt full. I didnt reproduce the error, but according to the forums I'm not the only one with the problem, so I'd say it's reproducible. Sorry I don't have more information than on the link. Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. athlon XP 2700+, 512MB RAM, Gigabyte 7NNXP mainboard, Club3D Radeon 7500 PCI and Knoppix 3.3
dont bind /dev to the chroot
If that's true, why does it state in the handbook to do that if you're running knoppix or a livecd not using devfs? http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook.xml?part=1&chap=6 ^^^ there's the link Should the bug possibly be moved to documentation so they can look at that? What is the correct way of doing it?

Created attachment 26579 [details] Solution for: cannot write to /dev/shm Solution for: Cannot write to /dev/shm during stage1 install with knoppix
are we not automatically mounting /dev/shm like we should be when the livecd boots?
is this still an issue?
