PLease go ahead. test suite included. Last minute bump, due to seperating  CXX/CFLAGS, which shouldn't break anything.

Tested on x86 pulled in ~x86 sci-chemistry/makecif-5.6.6
I then had file collision(s) + fails 3 tests
I opened bug 349700
