Description Agostino Sarubbo gentoo-dev 2016-06-03 10:24:37 UTC
From ${URL} :

Quick Emulator(Qemu) built with the ESP/NCR53C9x controller emulation support
is vulnerable to an OOB write access issue. The controller uses 16-byte FIFO
buffer for command and information transfer. The OOB write occurs while
reading from information transfer buffer via non-DMA mode in routine get_cmd().

A privileged user inside guest could use this flaw to crash the Qemu process
resulting in DoS.

@maintainer(s): after the bump, in case we need to stabilize the package, please let us know if it is ready for the stabilization or not.

CVE-2016-5338 (http://nvd.nist.gov/nvd.cfm?cvename=CVE-2016-5338):
  The (1) esp_reg_read and (2) esp_reg_write functions in hw/scsi/esp.c in
QEMU allow local guest OS administrators to cause a denial of service (QEMU
process crash) or execute arbitrary code on the QEMU host via vectors
related to the information transfer buffer.

CVE-2016-5238 (http://nvd.nist.gov/nvd.cfm?cvename=CVE-2016-5238):
The get_cmd function in hw/scsi/esp.c in QEMU might allow local guest OS
administrators to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds write and QEMU
process crash) via vectors related to reading from the information transfer
  buffer in non-DMA mode.
