Same here, on amd64 (so this is not x86 specific) and latest nvidias (glx 1.0.7174-r4 and kernel 1.0.7174), except that it was a standard 'emerge sync;emerge -auDt world' I saw the problem when I rebooted (into 2.6.11-r9) but the kernel is not the culprit, same problem with 2.6.11-r8 which was working fine before. I'll check which of binutils or baselayout is responsible for it Portage 2.0.51.22 (default-linux/amd64/2005.0, gcc-3.4.3-20050110, glibc-2.3.5-r0, 2.6.11-gentoo-r9 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.11-gentoo-r9 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3700+ Gentoo Base System version 1.6.12 ccache version 2.4 [disabled] dev-lang/python: 2.3.5 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.8 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r6 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.5 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r9 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.16 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64 ~amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/texmf/web2c /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks sandbox strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" LANG="fr_FR@euro" LC_ALL="fr_FR" LINGUAS="fr" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="amd64 X aalib acpi aim alsa apache2 avi bash-completion berkdb bitmap-fonts bonobo bzlib cdb cdr crypt cups curl curlwrappers dga dio dvb dvd dvdr dvdread eds encode exif fam fastcgi ffmpeg fftw flac font-server foomaticdb fortran ftp gb gcj gd gdbm gif glut gnome gnustep gnutls gphoto2 gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 gtkhtml guile iconv imagemagick imap imlib ipv6 jabber java joystick jp2 jpeg junit kde libcaca libwww live lzw lzw-tiff mad matroska mbox mikmod mime mng motif mozilla mp3 mpeg msn nas ncurses nls nptl nptlonly nvidia objc offensive ogg oggvorbis openal opengl oscar oss pam pcmcia pcre pda pdflib perl php pic png posix ppds python qt quicktime readline real recode samba scanner sdl shared sharedmem simplexml slang snmp sockets socks5 speex spell ssl svg tcltk tcpd tetex theora threads tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts unicode usb userlocales v4l vcd vorbis wifi wxwindows xface xine xinerama xml xml2 xmlrpc xmms xosd xpm xrandr xv xvid yahoo zlib linguas_fr userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LDFLAGS It's related to baselayout-1.11.12. After downgrade to baselayout-1.11.11-r3 or lower everything works again. This is a duplicate of bug 92856... that bug contains a workaround, bug 92921 (which is also a dup) has the proper fix. (But I don't have permissions to resolve them as such) Ok some more infos: - binutils is definitively innocent, so this is baselayout's fault - bugs #92905, #92921, #92856 and #92975 report this baselayout-1.11.12 bug - video players like mplayer are also affected (they segfault) - the problem is in /sbin/rc (line 263), change line: try mount -n -t ${mntcmd} udev /dev -o noexec,nosuid,mode=0755 into try mount -n -t ${mntcmd} udev /dev -o exec,nosuid,mode=0755 - glx works again, mplayer works again for me with this change |
