Description m1027 2024-03-29 21:33:28 UTC
Hi,

please consider adding dev-db/valkey to portage.

It is a fork of dev-db/redis and currently on par with the latest version 7.2.4.

See: https://github.com/valkey-io/valkey

Background: dev-db/redis is present in portage but they announced to not continue the current licensing model. Some even consider redis not to be open source anymore. Anyway, it has been forked as valkey which will continue the BSD license model. valkey has been backed by the Linux Foundation and others.

Thanks

We are already working on Redict ebuilds https://bugs.gentoo.org/928119
It's a more community-driven LGPL fork.

Just FYI, there is a pre-release now: https://github.com/valkey-io/valkey/releases/tag/7.2.4-rc1

No stress. ;-)

To be clear, as the (former, I guess) Redis maintainers in Gentoo, arkamar and I are happy to review a PR for valkey too. But it will ideally have someone volunteering to proxy maintain it too.
