According to the > Fedora bug, /proc/fs/nfsd/clients was added to kernel 5.3. Upgraded kernel to gentoo-sources-5.4.134, with nfs-utils-2.54, problem solved. Will upgrade to 5.10.x on next gentoo-sources stabilization, but I guess it will work. Thank you. Thanks for verifying this, I'll try and email upstream and try and get them to walk back that seemingly hard requirement. Heh. And this is the week I decided to foray into NFS. Been fiddling with my nearly bald head, searching for hair to pull. I thought I had some obscure configuration setting out of rig. Studied messages returned from command line, search internet, search Gentoo forums ... after probably ten hours look for "rpc" in the kern.log and messages. VIOLA!!! At any rate, exact same symptom at `/etc/init.d/nfs stop`, same log entry in /var/log/messages, "Unable to watch /proc/fs/nfsd/clients: No such file or directory" Really glad I found this bugreport. Downgrade to 2.5.3-r1 and it just works. Now I can get to the business I had anticipated, adjusting firewall, config of NFS. I think you can count this as CONFIRMED, but not sure if you want to call it a bug, because I am on kernel-4.19.141. Tested successfully =sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-5.10.61.
