Yeah, you're reading it right. This isn't a problem _per se_ for now, we need to wait for a new version of docutils to come out, but if they take a while, we'll need to patch it or similar. It can be safely ignored for the time being. (In reply to Sam James from comment #1) > Yeah, you're reading it right. Thanks for getting back on this (: I should have asked earlier, but where should I report this upstream to get the ball rolling there? (In reply to Davyd McColl from comment #3) > I should have asked earlier, but where should I report this upstream to get > the ball rolling there? Hi, it has already been reported here: https://github.com/readthedocs/sphinx_rtd_theme/issues/1115 A few days ago I ran into a similar error, but for "dev-python / documenttils-0.18" the error looks like this: WARNING: One or more updates/rebuilds have been skipped due to a dependency conflict: dev-python/docutils:0 (dev-python/docutils-0.18:0/0::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) USE="" ABI_X86="(64)" PYTHON_TARGETS="python3_9 (-pypy3) (-python3_10) -python3_8" conflicts with <dev-python/docutils-0.18[python_targets_python3_9(-)] required by (dev-python/sphinx_rtd_theme-1.0.0:0/0::gentoo, installed) USE="-test" ABI_X86="(64)" PYTHON_TARGETS="python3_9 (-pypy3) (-python3_10) -python3_8" ^ ^^^^ <dev-python/docutils-0.18[python_targets_python3_9(-)] required by (dev-python/sphinx-4.3.1:0/0::gentoo, installed) USE="-doc -latex -test" ABI_X86="(64)" PYTHON_TARGETS="python3_9 (-pypy3) (-python3_10) -python3_8" ^ ^^^^ Nothing to merge; quitting. I tried different solutions to this problem, but only masking the "dev-python / documenttils-0.18" package helped! (In reply to Stas from comment #5) > A few days ago I ran into a similar error, but for "dev-python / > documenttils-0.18" the error looks like this: > > WARNING: One or more updates/rebuilds have been skipped due to a dependency > conflict: > > dev-python/docutils:0 > > (dev-python/docutils-0.18:0/0::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) USE="" > ABI_X86="(64)" PYTHON_TARGETS="python3_9 (-pypy3) (-python3_10) -python3_8" > conflicts with > <dev-python/docutils-0.18[python_targets_python3_9(-)] required by > (dev-python/sphinx_rtd_theme-1.0.0:0/0::gentoo, installed) USE="-test" > ABI_X86="(64)" PYTHON_TARGETS="python3_9 (-pypy3) (-python3_10) -python3_8" > ^ ^^^^ > <dev-python/docutils-0.18[python_targets_python3_9(-)] required by > (dev-python/sphinx-4.3.1:0/0::gentoo, installed) USE="-doc -latex -test" > ABI_X86="(64)" PYTHON_TARGETS="python3_9 (-pypy3) (-python3_10) -python3_8" > ^ ^^^^ > Nothing to merge; quitting. > > I tried different solutions to this problem, but only masking the > "dev-python / documenttils-0.18" package helped! echo '=dev-python/docutils-0.18' > /etc/portage/package.mask/docutils (In reply to Stas from comment #5) > A few days ago I ran into a similar error, but for "dev-python / > documenttils-0.18" the error looks like this: > > WARNING: One or more updates/rebuilds have been skipped due to a dependency > conflict: > > dev-python/docutils:0 > > (dev-python/docutils-0.18:0/0::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) USE="" > ABI_X86="(64)" PYTHON_TARGETS="python3_9 (-pypy3) (-python3_10) -python3_8" > conflicts with > <dev-python/docutils-0.18[python_targets_python3_9(-)] required by > (dev-python/sphinx_rtd_theme-1.0.0:0/0::gentoo, installed) USE="-test" > ABI_X86="(64)" PYTHON_TARGETS="python3_9 (-pypy3) (-python3_10) -python3_8" > ^ ^^^^ > <dev-python/docutils-0.18[python_targets_python3_9(-)] required by > (dev-python/sphinx-4.3.1:0/0::gentoo, installed) USE="-doc -latex -test" > ABI_X86="(64)" PYTHON_TARGETS="python3_9 (-pypy3) (-python3_10) -python3_8" > ^ ^^^^ > Nothing to merge; quitting. > > I tried different solutions to this problem, but only masking the > "dev-python / documenttils-0.18" package helped! It's a warning/informative message. All masking will do is cause issues in future when that package is actually needed. In the future I will think about what to do .... but for now, so. I am also hitting this annoying warning message, and I totally agree that masking it might complicate things later on when the package is needed.
Merry Christmas :)

I must have done something to the local use flags because the warning is now gone... HINT: In my case, I detected app-emulation/qemu having "doc" enabled by default: . . . . . IUSE="... +doc" Disabling this via a "-doc" entry in /etc/portage/package.use, the one and only culprit pulling dev-python/docutils had been eradicated. HTH P.S.: Created Bug 830088 (In reply to Manfred Knick from comment #11) > Disabling this via a "-doc" entry in /etc/portage/package.use, > the one and only culprit pulling dev-python/docutils had been eradicated. By the looks of it I added -doc to the global USE. That must have done the trick. (In reply to Pietro from comment #13) > ... I added -doc to the global USE. > That must have done the trick. Hmm - yes, sure, your sledgehammer will work instantaneously for that current goal, but keep in mind that it might obfuscate later findings. Personally, I prefer a scalpel wherever possible ;-) Kind regards! Has there been any movement on this? The (rather drastic, imo) action of disabling docs system-wide doesn't seem like a legitimate fix. Is there any reason sphinx_rtd_theme can't just be bumped up to depend on docutils 0.17.1? (In reply to Davyd McColl from comment #15) > Has there been any movement on this? The (rather drastic, imo) action of > disabling docs system-wide doesn't seem like a legitimate fix. Is there any > reason sphinx_rtd_theme can't just be bumped up to depend on docutils 0.17.1? As per the links above, it literally doesn't work with newer docutils. The dependency is correct. We just have to wait for newer sphinx_rtd_* to be released whith works with newer docutils. There's no need to disable docs system wide. Just ignore the _warning_ (it's not an error). sphinx 5.0.0 and friends are now in tree Thank-you! I see it as ~, so I assume it will drop into stable some time soon. Thanks for your work. |
