To be exact, I use dev-java/openjdk-bin, but I suppose it works the same everywhere. originally I wanted to unmask openjdk{,-bin}:8[gentoo-vm] as upstream ships working jfx-bin, but probably should do it sooner, you are right. not unmasking 11, it's still very broken. icedtea while it works on more arches lags behind. to clarify wording: i was waiting for adoptopenjdk to start shipping openjdk with openjfx. The bug has been closed via the following commit(s): https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/?id=a28f1e3f2ede1aee70a07c2cdfcefc60042dd7da commit a28f1e3f2ede1aee70a07c2cdfcefc60042dd7da Author: Georgy Yakovlev <gyakovlev@gentoo.org> AuthorDate: 2019-10-28 18:52:20 +0000 Commit: Georgy Yakovlev <gyakovlev@gentoo.org> CommitDate: 2019-10-28 18:55:30 +0000 profiles: unmask openjdk{,-bin,jre-bin}:8[gentoo-vm] this change allows to use openjdk:8 and friends as default java on the system. after reinstallation with this flag enabled it will appear in 'eselect java-vm' output. next versions of openjdk*:8 will have this flag removed and functionality will be enabled unconditionally.
