However, they also said that since 1.5.3 they have been mostly doing fixes, and 1.5.5svn snapshots should be pretty stable (or 'as stable as development release'). So, in accordance with upstream I am going to add the upcoming development snapshot to Gentoo ebuild repo with ~arch keywords.
