I see it's a recurring request here and on the forums (bug 45050, bug 47074, bug 40711), but I think the solution should be more general: The current policy is that each wm puts a file in /etc/X11/Sessions/ I propose to either - change the policy so that each wm puts a '.desktop' file in /usr/share/xsession, or - keep the policy, but make gdm create its own '.desktop' files from the files in /etc/X11/Sessions, as kde currently does (see http://www.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/kde-base/kdebase/files/3.3.0/Xsetup?rev=1.1&content-type=text/vnd.viewcvs-markup). What do you think? I second the proposal to change the policy to install .desktop session files in /usr/share/xsessions. That's the default, natively supported behaviour of kdm and gdm today. /etc/X11/Sessions is a Gentoo-specific thingy that needs extra code for kdm/gdm to work with it (and gdm doesn't have such code anymore AFAIK). Cf last three comments of bug 15315. *** Bug 51777 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** both kdebase and kdebase-startkde now install /usr/share/xsessions/kde-$ver.desktop. |
