When I receive messages containing umlauts (öäüß...), gaim only displays "(There was an error receiving this message)" instead of the message. This happens with an ICQ account, gaim is net-im/gaim-0.82.1 on x86, not using gnome. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Run gaim 2. Make somebody send you a message with umlauts Actual Results: "(There was an error receiving this message)" is displayed Expected Results: The original message should have been displayed, obviously gaim 0.82.1 fry ~ # emerge info Portage 2.0.50-r10 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.3.4, glibc-2.3.3.20040420-r1, 2.4.27) ================================================================= System uname: 2.4.27 i686 AMD Duron(tm) processor Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 distcc 2.13 i686-pc-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [disabled] ccache version 2.3 [enabled] Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r4 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.5-r1 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-Os -pipe -march=athlon" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-Os -pipe -march=athlon" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs ccache fixpackages sandbox strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://zoidberg/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/linux/gentoo/ http://gentoo.inode.at/" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="" SYNC="rsync://zoidberg/gentoo-portage" USE="3dnow X apm avi berkdb cdr crypt cups encode esd faad faad2 foomaticdb gdbm gif gtk gtk2 imlib ipv6 java jpeg libg++ libwww mad mbox mikmod mmx motif mpeg ncurses nls offensive oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl png python qt quicktime readline ruby sdl slang ssl tcltk tcpd tetex theora truetype x86 xml xml2 xmms xv zlib" Apparently, this is fixed in CVS. Could you pull that in as a patch, maybe? *** Bug 63414 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** This bug is upstream many times over. Please search for existing bugs before posting new ones here or anywhere. http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=235&atid=100235&func=detail&aid=1018958 I did search for the bug here. I couldn't find it, that's why I posted it. Against the advice from emerge, to post here and not at the gaim bug tracker, I found that this has been fixed. Could you get that fix into the gentoo package? What do you mean by upstream, by the way? |
