Description Nathan Powell 2004-08-30 04:55:44 UTC
This is just a suggestion/request. I like the index page layout on packages.gentoo.org I really enjoy going there and browsing the latest updates, however I dislike trying to look down through the list at the left to try to see what I may have missed. So I am requesting gentoo.org to provide a link at the bottom of that page that says something like... Last 10 Packages. When clicked one would see the 10 (or how ever many) package updates (that came before the currently posted updates) in the desirable format of the current packages. I really think it would make the online package list cooler. Thanks for reading and I hope I have made my suggestion understandable.

I don't really understand your request, actually. We already provide the last 10 package updates on the left hand side, at the very top. I realize you said you don't like to scroll through this list, but I don't see how having a link at the bottom of the page is substantially different than hitting the "home" key on your keyboard and looking at the first 10 lines of the left column.

Can you please clarify?

ure. Sorry. I was wondering if it was clear.

Ok. What I meant was, I would like to be able to see the previous 10
packages in the same format as the current 10 packages. Sometimes when
looking at the package list on the left I am not sure what a package
does, and rather than clicking each one individually a link to a
formatted previous 10 packages would be nicer. Similar to how
freashmeat does the "yesterdays packages" at the bottom of it's home
page (I am sure you are familiar with freshmeat but here is the link
anyway:http://freshmeat.net/). That way with a quick scan I can see the
Changelog, License and Catagory of the previous 10 w/o the hassle of
clicking each package individually.

I hope I am making this a little clear, sorry if it sounds obtuse.

Shouldn't the RSS feeds be good enough for this? I think the RSS feeds, in addition to a decent RSS reader, does a decent job of handling this. Also see bug #44474.

Well sure, there may be any number of other methods, however my suggestion was to make that particular web page more useable. If RSS is good enough then why have this page at all?

If you mouse-over the package it gives you the description. I don't think this
feature request will give much more benefit (compared to the amount of time
needed to implement it). Of course I will consider a patch :-)
