the old gmock requires:
C++98-standard-compliant compiler
Perhaps gcc6 needs to run in a more conservative mode, or we should update to gtest/gmock (see: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=602218)
It includes the latest gmock.
