This has been covered before. there is no support yet for the JIT on the amd64 architecture. The only thing available is mint, the interpreter. UPSTREAM is working on the JIT for amd64, hopefully we will see it with one of the upcoming releases. I may add a warning at the end of the emerge when on amd64 warning people about this, because this is a frequent question. Marking CANTFIX. *** Bug 72627 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 72626 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** I have an x86 system, and /usr/bin/mono is not produced. # emerge --info Portage 2.0.51-r3 (default-linux/x86/2004.2, gcc-3.3.4, glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r1, 2.6.9-gentoo-r9 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.9-gentoo-r9 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 ccache version 2.3 [enabled] Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r5 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.5-r1 Binutils: sys-devel/binutils-2.15.90.0.1.1-r3 Headers: sys-kernel/linux26-headers-2.6.8.1,sys-kernel/linux26-headers-2.6.8.1-r1 Libtools: sys-devel/libtool-1.5.2-r7 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-march=pentium4 -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/env /usr/kde/3.3/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=pentium4 -O2 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs autoconfig candy ccache distlocks fixpackages sandbox sfperms userpriv usersandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://ftp.belnet.be/mirror/rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo/ ftp://ftp.belnet.be/mirror/rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo/" MAKEOPTS="-j3" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 X acl alsa apache2 apm arts audiofile avi bash-completion berkdb bitmap-fonts blender-game bootsplash cdparanoia cdr clisp crypt cups divx4linux dvd dvdr emacs encode fam flac foomaticdb fortran gdbm gif gimp gimpprint gkrellm gpm gtk gtk2 imagemagick imap imlib ipv6 java javadoc javascript jce jpeg jpeg2k junit kde libwww mad mikmod mozilla moznocompose moznoirc moznomail mp3 mpeg msn ncurses nls no_wxgtk1nptl nvidia oav oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl php png python qt quicktime readline samba sdl spell ssl svga tcltk tcpd tetex tiff truetype xine xml2 xmms xprintxv xvid zlib linguas_nl" Do "etcat -f mono | grep bin" I'm %99 sure that you have a broken gcc-config setup.
