Please add emerge --info and fix your build.log to not have all these control characters.
Comment 2 Harris Landgarten 2015-05-04 19:03:17 UTC
Here is the error:

/var/tmp/paludis/gnome-extra-california-0.4.0/work/california-0.4.0/src/backing/eds/backing-eds-calendar-source.vala:259:2: error: too few arguments to function 'e_cal_client_connect'

I use paludis but portage fails as well

Comment 5 Randy Tupas 2015-06-04 03:38:45 UTC
Suffered similar issue with eds. Added emerge --info and build log as attachments.
Comment 6 Alexandre Rostovtsev (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2015-06-11 15:05:30 UTC
Unfortunately, this is a deep incompatibility. Even if we fix the build failure, california can't log in to a calendar using eds-3.16. Upstream (or someone who understands both vala and the eds API) needs to fix this.

The issue has been known to upstream for many months, so I don't think that a fix in the very near future is likely. For now, I am removing california from the overlay.
