Pushing it over regular HTTP server disallow shallow clones, and will be broken with new Portage versions. Regarding your request, would providing a "git://" version of the overlay qualify as "non-dumb transport"? I've just made my overlay available as git://overlay.xelnor.net/overlay.git. Thanks a lot.
