Can you try to emerge rsync and remerge this? The same result. I was able to work around this by first removing all the sgml and docbook packages with: qpkg -I -nc -g app-text | grep -E '(docb|sgml)' | xargs emerge -C I should add that I don't do anything with docbook or sgml so if I wrecked it all I really wouldn't lose anything. I just keep it around hoping to learn one day. You might need to be more careful. Then I re-installed the whole pile with qpkg -U -nc -g app-text | grep -E '(docb|sgml[^2])' | xargs emerge -p Check first with -p to see what will go in, then run without the -p: qpkg -U -nc -g app-text | grep -E '(docb|sgml[^2])' | xargs emerge I'm using portage 2.0.9 where -U is advertised as considering 'only uninstalled packages' but behaves as if it considers all packages, only printing the list without the '*' that marks installed packages; the point here being that this procedure may stop working for future versions of portage. Also, the '[^2]' is there because emerge barfs on package 'app-text/sgml2x' for some reason. OK, so if you did all that in the previous comment you might find that libeee won't merge for you because of a docbook error. So emerge docbook-sgml-utils one more time, per bug #4512. Did that work, Avi? *** Bug 4618 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Afraid not. At this point I have tried to remove all the docbook and sgml packages and re-emrge them with the same exact result when it tries to build app-text/docbook-sgml-utils. *** Bug 4663 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** Bug 4693 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** can you chaps tell me which sgml-dtd versions you have installed? * app-text/docbook-sgml-dtd Latest version Available: 4.1 Latest version Installed: 4.1 Homepage: http://www.oasis-open.org/docbook/sgml/${PV}/index.html Description: Docbook SGML DTD 4.1 error: make[2]: Entering directory `/var/tmp/portage/docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.11/work/docbook-utils-0.6.11/doc/HTML' SGML_CATALOG_FILES=/etc/sgml/catalog \ SGML_SEARCH_PATH=../..:../../doc:.. \ jade -t sgml -i html -d ../../docbook-utils.dsl\#html \ -V '%use-id-as-filename%' ../../doc/docbook-utils.sgml jade:/usr/share/sgml/docbook/sgml-dtd-3.1/dbcent.mod:53:65:W: cannot generate system identifier for public text "ISO 8879:1986//ENTITIES Added Math Symbols: Arrow Relations//EN" jade:/usr/share/sgml/docbook/sgml-dtd-3.1/dbcent.mod:54:8:E: reference to entity "ISOamsa" for which no system identifier could be generated jade:/usr/share/sgml/docbook/sgml-dtd-3.1/dbcent.mod:52:0: entity was defined here jade:/usr/share/sgml/docbook/sgml-dtd-3.1/dbcent.mod:60:66:W: cannot generate system identifier for public text "ISO 8879:1986//ENTITIES Added Math Symbols: Binary Operators//EN" <snip> I have app-text/docbook-sgml-dtd-4.1 installed too. Basically the catalogs was removed in the wrong order, and when the package was still installed. If you remerge sgml-common-0.6.3-r1, it will add the right catalogs back in and wont try to remove them while the package (just newer revision) is still installed. Future updates should now also go without problem (after you have merged sgml-common-0.6.3-r1 twice). Worked for me. Thanks! me too. I had remerged sgml-common, the second try must have done the trick. [removing cc.] Hasn't worked for me. I unmerged everything that had to do with "sgml" and remerged. Same problem appears. Any suggestions ? Didn't work for me. I even unmerged app-text/sgml-common and then re-emerged it, but when I try to emerge app-text/docbook-sgml-utils I still get the same slew of error messages. Unmerging, removing sgml-common* from /usr/portage/packages/All/, and re-merging app-text/sgml-common did the trick for me. Suggest new revision of sgml-common to "force" update of that package. it's mighty small, so shouldn't exactly be a burdon. Make the docbook-sgml-utils depend on it, perhaps. I was thinking about that as well, but you will have to ensure somehow that whatever revision from -r1 and up (or -r1, -r2) gets merged twice in total. It may be that someone out there havent updated to -r1, and if he then someday update to -r2 (or whatever), things will still break for him if he dont remerge it agian. Maybe there is a way to do some clever "fake" DEPENDS that will force both -r1 and -r2 to be merged if you were still on 0.6.3 ? Ill think about this some more. I don't even have /usr/portage/packages/All/. My /usr/portage/packages directory is empty. An remerge of sgml-common also didn't worked for me. But i unmerged the following packages: app-text/docbook-dsssl-stylesheets app-text/docbook-sgml app-text/docbook-sgml-dtd app-text/docbook-sgml-utils app-text/docbook-xml-dtd app-text/docbook-xml-simple-dtd app-text/docbook-xsl-stylesheets app-text/jadetex app-text/openjade app-text/sgml-common And after that i moved away /etc/sgml (to have a backup ;) Now an 'emerge app-text/docbook-sgml-utils' installed all packages above again (docbook-sgml not but who cares) and the installitation of docbook-sgml-util-0.6.11 went fine. It was the second box where i had trouble with the sgml-utils-0.6.11, and the second box where the method above fixed it. I think for me the problem was that the files in /etc/sgml were corrupted because i unmerged the dtd-[34].0 a few times before. Ohh, 'qpkg -I -v docbook-sgml-dtd' before "my fix" looked like for Avi, Alex.. *** Bug 4737 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Good grief Nils... How did you manage to figure out which packages to unmerge? Nils' method worked for me at long last! I got docbook-sgml-utils to merge fine. Ok, I need a few more pieces of information: emerge -s openjade ls -l /etc/sgml cat /etc/sgml/catalog I *THINK* that your problem will be solvable with: install-catalog --remove /etc/sgml/openjade-1.3.cat /usr/share/sgml/openjade-1.3/catalog install-catalog --remove /etc/sgml/sgml-docbook.cat /etc/sgml/openjade-1.3.cat but I'm not sure. I am fairly certain that openjade had a faulty ebuild at some point in the past, and that upgrading with it left cruft. Here's the requested information.. ##### emerge -s openjade Searching... What is your current version of docbook-dsssl-stylesheets ? Try re-emerging it; it supplies the "James Clark" DTD. If that does work, there are some drastic steps we can take... This is what I have..

This should clean up all the cruft right? I also removed /etc/sgml
I ran this to re-emerge those packages.

The emerge got as far as docbook-sgml-utils-0.6.11-r2 and gave the error.
Try it again, but also rm -rf /usr/share/sgml Tried that too.. no go chief. I cleaned out my system on the weekends because I wanted to test some optimisation flags. What's left on my system is essentially the core system packages (what you would get if you installed gentoo to the end of stage3 for the first time). I then did an emerge gnome2 and kde and left it to run overnight. Everything emerged correctly, including docbook-sgml-utils. So there was some cruft left behind that was giving me problems.. but now it's no more. Sorry I couldn't give you more information than this. Ok, then I'm going to go ahead and close this massacre of a bug... ;-) Sorry, but this thing still doesn't work on a fresh install of Gentoo (on an AMD k6-2 500). I've tried every 'fix' in here, but still no go. You are dealing with a different issue. K6-2 has been dealt with in 8104. Please see there. I am closing this bug. |
