Please provide an emerge --info and build.log and config.log as portage suggests. Fixed by running python-updater after resumed emerge world was completed. This was invalid then I don't think this is invalid, and there is an actual missing dependency. Can we please reopen this? gnome-icon-theme should explicitly depend on x11-libs/gtk+ because: checking for gtk-update-icon-cache... no configure: error: Could not find gtk-update-icon-cache The binary gtk-update-icon-cache comes from gtk+. gtk+ only comes as a transitive runtime dependency. The workaround with python-updater is not really relevant, it just mixes up the build order some and may cause gtk+ to be installed. It's true, but I am unsure about simply RDEPENDing on x11-libs/gtk+ because gtk-update-icon-cache shouldn't be used during compilation, it is executed by gnome2-utils.eclass, then, I am not sure if maybe that eclass should RDEPEND on x11-libs/gtk+ when needed (In reply to comment #5) > It's true, but I am unsure about simply RDEPENDing on x11-libs/gtk+ because > gtk-update-icon-cache shouldn't be used during compilation, it is executed by > gnome2-utils.eclass, then, I am not sure if maybe that eclass should RDEPEND on > x11-libs/gtk+ when needed Executed by the eclass? Why does the icon-theme configure check for it then? I didn't explore in detail where is this used, but the configure check is either bogus and should be removed or the package is really using it and then this ebuild should DEPEND on gtk+. Also, I'm not sure if RDEPEND is the right thing. This should in fact be an HDEPEND, but I'm not sure that is even officially supported, and closest to that is DEPEND. (In reply to comment #5) > It's true, but I am unsure about simply RDEPENDing on x11-libs/gtk+ because > gtk-update-icon-cache shouldn't be used during compilation, it is executed by > gnome2-utils.eclass, then, I am not sure if maybe that eclass should RDEPEND on > x11-libs/gtk+ when needed The Makefile is using gtk-update-icon-cache as install-data-hook. This also affected to the tree, could you please comment what would be the most proper solution for this? Thanks a lot I think gnome-icon-theme should DEPEND on gtk+, because its build system uses a tool provided by gtk+. I second the suggestion of adding gtk+ to the list of deps. the workaround of running either revdep-rebuild or even, python-updater does not work and gtk+ does not even want to install before
