The base 1.7 series has been in the tree for 3 months now, and the 1.7.1 release for nearly 30 days, so it's time for some stabilization.
(This bug supersedes stabilization of git-1.6.6* bug 312331)

1.7.1 isn't in the tree anymore.  What should ppc/ppc64 be marking stable?  1.7.1-r1?

1.7.2.2 is already stable for ppc/ppc64
