ConsoleKit is necessary in the 2.27.* versions of g-p-m for hibernation/suspend support. It is purely a runtime dep; however, you get no hiberation/suspend w/o it. You will either need to patch g-p-m yourself or wait till someone else who is interested in not using consolekit patches it instead. FYI: USE=consolekit is default in desktop profiles now, so this is really a low-priority for gnome herd lowering priority since consolekit is far less evil that devicekit or policykit. Even with consolekit there is no hibernate or suspend not even as menu entry. Details here: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-6038723.html#6038723 Okay this is with gnome-extra/gnome-power-manager-2.28.1, but even in gnome-extra/gnome-power-manager-2.27.92-r1 there are the same problems. It will be part of the migration guide though. But... suspend is really easy... just echo "mem" > /sys/power/state So... why consolekit? what I am trying to say is, that even adding consolekit does not solve any problem with gpm... I'm inclined to close this RESOLVED UPSTREAM unless some patches appear. agreed, please take note this should probably end up in the migration guide as well (In reply to comment #8) > agreed, please take note this should probably end up in the migration guide as > well > Included in migration guide, closing then |
