# Timeline # 2010-01-01: * mark qt:3 as deprecated with ewarn * mask qt3 useflag in profiles * add ewarn to qt3.eclass with link to removal policy * prepare news item about qt:3 deprecation and future removal 2010-01-21: * Qt team meeting: discuss actions to be taken regarding remaining pkgs that use qt:3 Well, please let me know when to drop KEYWORDS=ppc. It's not entirely clear what the above means. PPC currently needs to depend on a pre-installed qt-3, so masking would basically notify PPC users, but only indirectly. When is x11-libs/qt-3 going to be MASKED, you say? Next item on the timeline: 2010-02-21: * mask qt:3 and depending ebuilds, pending removal As Opera already has Qt4 builds for x86 and amd64, what's keeping them from doing it for ppc? (In reply to comment #2) > Next item on the timeline: > > 2010-02-21: > * mask qt:3 and depending ebuilds, pending removal I'll try to make sure to remove qt3 support shortly before that. > As Opera already has Qt4 builds for x86 and amd64, what's keeping them from > doing it for ppc? As for Opera's policy on disclosing what arches are declared dead, it doesn't seem they have one - they certainly didn't announce that they dropped SPARC. But ppc support does seem to be on the way out. @ppc: What is your take on how to do this? Package.mask www-client/opera in the ppc profiles when the time comes, with a note telling persisting Opera users to install x11-libs/qt3 from the kde-sunset overlay? Sounds fine to me. --- ChangeLog 2010-01-08 19:04:20.000000000 +0100 +++ ChangeLog.new 2010-01-23 18:15:06.000000000 +0100 @@ -2,6 +2,9 @@ # Copyright 1999-2010 Gentoo Foundation; Distributed under the GPL v2 # $Header: /var/cvsroot/gentoo-x86/profiles/arch/powerpc/ChangeLog,v 1.45 2010/01/08 10:45:31 flameeyes Exp $ + 23 Jan 2010; Jeroen Roovers <jer@gentoo.org> package.mask: + Mask www-client/opera (bug #283430). Still no sign of a 10.50_pre* for ppc. Could be end of life... All qt3/ppc support has been removed from the 10.10/10.20 ebuilds that still had it. |
