Description SpanKY gentoo-dev 2009-08-16 17:53:20 UTC
seems the custom AC_LBL_C_INIT macro libpcap ships with pisses off autoconf and in general, looks like a behind-the-back-hack.

$ autoconf warning: AC_REQUIRE: `AC_PROG_CC' was expanded before it was required
../../lib/autoconf/c.m4:433: AC_LANG_COMPILER(C) is expanded from...
../../lib/autoconf/lang.m4:315: AC_LANG_COMPILER_REQUIRE is expanded from...
../../lib/autoconf/general.m4:2593: AC_COMPILE_IFELSE is expanded from...
../../lib/autoconf/general.m4:2601: AC_TRY_COMPILE is expanded from...
aclocal.m4:45: AC_LBL_C_INIT is expanded from... the top level
$ ./configure

checking target system type... x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
./configure: line 2455: syntax error near unexpected token `newline'
./configure: line 2455: `yes:'

if we edit aclocal.m4 and change AC_LBL_C_INIT:
- AC_BEFORE([$0], [AC_PROG_CC])

then it seems to "work", but i dont know how this affects this macro

Comment 2 Diego Elio Pettenò (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-08-31 09:04:58 UTC
I agree with Mike's patch, that seems to do what they tried to do in the first place.
Comment 4 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2009-11-08 02:02:22 UTC
that doesnt really help. we know why the code doesnt work, but we dont know what upstream actually wanted to do.
Comment 6 Peter Volkov (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-04-02 05:58:42 UTC
This was fixed by upstream in libpcap-1.1.0.

Can we please get a version that builds with the soon-to-be-stable autoconf stable?
