Description Arseny Solokha 2009-08-08 23:04:00 UTC
There are two annoying problems with ePDFView:
1. It doesn't accept any option except file name in it's command line and doesn't show any "usage" information. And doesn't provide any help and hasn't man page. If it has no command line options it should say that anyway.
2. It tries to open any file system object which user order it to open, even directory. And if this object is not a PDF file it shows "Encrypted document" dialog. Completely irrelevant. It shows that dialog whatever file with given name exists or not.

There are trivial fixes for these bugs. I've sent patches upstream (http://trac.emma-soft.com/epdfview/ticket/116) but upstream seems to be dead. So I've attached they to this bug report too as they may become useful for some users. There is also a semblable patch from Debian team (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=508969) but it is for version 0.1.6, and it works slightly different.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start ePDFView.
2. Open non-existent file.
3. Get "Encrypted document" dialog box.
Actual Results:
Suggestion to enter password for the document.

Expected Results:
Denial to open file.

Show help/version/usage information and check arguments

Show help, version or usage information because user should know what to do with the program. If there is a file name passed in the command line check whether this file exists and whether it is a regular file.

FYI there are two usability enhancements in official bug tracker with patches that could be picked up and applied to ePDFViewer:
  * #133 (Add "CTRL =" as zoom-in keyboard shortcut, http://trac.emma-soft.com/epdfview/ticket/133) and
  * #144 (Stay at the same page after reloading a document, http://trac.emma-soft.com/epdfview/ticket/144)
