I missed some information above bug report: First, I don't use gdm nor xdm to start Gnome. When "Show position of pointer when the Control key is pressed" in [System]->[Preferences]->[Mouse]->[Locate Pointer] checked, the key press event for the control key does not generated. Thus, some application could not detect the keypress event at all. For example, xmame and some game applications based on SDL could not detect a control key press event. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Check the "show position of pointer ..." in [System]->[Preferences]->[Mouse]->[Locate Pointer] 2. Run 'xev' in the terminal 3.
