Description Davide Pesavento gentoo-dev 2008-10-21 18:01:50 UTC
After updating to kdelibs-3.5.10-r2 and kdebase-startkde-3.5.10-r4, when I login to a kde session, applications which have a desktop file in /usr/share/autostart/ or /etc/xdg/autostart/ are not autostarted anymore.
Comment 1 Davide Pesavento gentoo-dev 2008-10-21 18:03:15 UTC
I only have KDE 3.5.10 installed at the moment.

I can confirm this.
Comment 3 Maciej Mrozowski gentoo-dev 2009-05-29 18:40:36 UTC
Yeah, startkde script lacks XDG handling.
Comment 4 Maciej Mrozowski gentoo-dev 2009-05-29 20:21:47 UTC
After second thought that partially seems to be intentional - at least with /usr/share/autostart - it contains kde4 specific .desktop files (like plasma, krunner, nepomukservices) and you certainly wouldn't want the to be started in KDE3 session (hopefully /usr/share/autostart is kde4 (-kdeprefix) specific location so your kde3 should not even try to touch it.
But speaking of XDG location (/etc/xdg) - it seems to be safe to add /etc/xdg/autostart and /etc/xdg/shutdown sypport.

Anyway - for KDE3 you still have private KDE3 startup/shutdown locations in /usr/kde/3.5/env/ and /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown respectively

XDG location is /usr/kde/3.5/etc/xdg is not used so far for startup/shutdown (should be?)
Comment 5 Maciej Mrozowski gentoo-dev 2009-05-29 21:40:17 UTC
After deeper digging - I guess /usr/share/autostart worked for you as it used to be accessible thanks to KDEDIRS=/usr and later entries in kdeglobals.
We can no longer provide any of the above because of known issues with KDE4 installed in /usr.
/etc/xdg/autostart handling should be fixed with next update.
Comment 6 Maciej Mrozowski gentoo-dev 2009-05-29 22:33:06 UTC
Unfortunately KDE3 (as of 3.5.10) doesn't seem to support XDG autostart locations... so unfortunately I suggest WONTFIX/UPSTREAM.

KDE3 is also masked for removal, closing...
