The qprintdialog_unix treats real cups printers as virtual printers. The result is that all KDE-4.1 applications will print into PDF no matter what. The URL of this bug points to a kde bug discussing this problem, two patches that resolve it (at least on my system) are to be found here:

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install kde-4.1 from overlay (I know, it's not supported, but the bug is in qt-gui, not kde)
2. Print anything from any kde-4.1 application
3. Profit!
