I commented out the 'SYNC' option in /etc/make.conf and did a emerge --sync. Alot of new things came in, so I guess ftp.belnet.be is out of date. (I just resynced with belnet before filing this bug). This bug can probably be closed (unless you want to take a peek at the mirroring problem). Forgot to mention that after the sync with another mirror everything works again.
