I'd like to see the cxacru firmware (I can give a copy to you) in an ebuild. It is needed for the Conexant AccessRunner USB ADSL Modem to work.

Actual Results:
I have to manually load the firmware into /lib/firmware

Expected Results:
emerge the firmware would create the needed /lib/firmware files

The question is whether we have the rights to redistribute these files or not. Do you know the license they're released under?

Yes, they're GPLd there's also the source code, but I've used the binaries.

Here are the modem's GPL drivers:

These drivers are shipped with the modem drivers' CD, and contain a driver (not really needed, because there's cxacru support into the kernel) and the firmware.

http://accessrunner.sourceforge.net/firmware.shtml says the firmware cannot be distributed.

The link you gave doesn't even compile.

If somebody makes a pair of ebuilds, one for the extraction tool, and a second RESTRICT=fetch ebuild for the actual conversion, then we can maybe work something out, but this ain't going to fly until then.
