Midnight Commanders subshell cannot change to non-ISO8859-1 encoded dir names, maybe it also happened with directories with blanks, (don't rememeber exactly as I found a fix weeks ago), this leads to inconsistent current dirs in UI and subshell, very annoying.

Found this fix in some other forum and applied it by making a new ebuild in my overlay.

This has been already fixed in 4.6.1-r3 and works just fine here.
