Description Christian 2006-04-14 10:21:59 UTC
it would be really great if gentoo will get an ebuild of asterisk @ home
Comment 1 Jon Hood (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-04-18 19:52:01 UTC
asterisk@home is a centos-based distribution. Surely you mean, "it would be good for gentoo to get ebuilds for the tools used in asterisk@home"? Which tools are you looking for? Could you please provide separate bug reports for each package request? Gentoo certainly doesn't want to be like asterisk@home, where you pop in a cd and it automatically installs itself without letting you know it's whiping your hard drives ;).
Comment 2 Rajiv Aaron Manglani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-04-27 21:04:31 UTC
see bug 99860 for a request for freepbx (the front end of asterisk@home).
Comment 3 Jon Hood (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-04-28 07:16:16 UTC
Sure. What we'll do is make this a meta-bug of the tools available in asterisk@home. Add bugs that request packages available in asterisk@home, and make them depend on this bug. After all the dependencies are in portage, we can close this one.

Asterisk::AGI perl module and friends

asterisk-perl ebuild which provides the Asterisk::AGI modules for writing perl scripts for the Asterisk Gateway Interface.

Jon Hood, you assume, that A@H is only to be seen as the whole CentOS distribution with the asterisk setup + addons + pre-configuration, but this seems not to be true, because there is an asteriskathome.tar.gz archive available for download besides the ISO image as well, and in the handbook it is described, how to install A@H onto an existing CentOS server. I may be wrong, and most likely this A@H install-script is just too customized for CentOS, to be converted for use with Gentoo, but I really would love to use A@H on Gentoo, instead of going with the whole A@H CentOS distribution.

(In reply to comment #5)
Yes, I do assume most of those. And no, the tarball provided will not be placed into the portage tree. A@H is a distribution, not a package. In this distribution are packages that we can add to portage:
http://asteriskathome.sourceforge.net/features.html
Asterisk@home systems are among the worst systems I have to maintain as an asterisk consultant, and I will vehemently oppose adding a sub-distribution like asterisk@home to Gentoo.

HOWEVER, each of the packages in that asteriskathome tarball are available from other sources. Nothing stops you from requesting ebuilds for those packages. There is nothing original in the tarball. If there's a SPECIFIC package you would like to see in portage or a function of asterisk@home you would like to see added, please make a new bug requesting the package and have it block this bug.

(In reply to comment #4)
Wade: could I please get you to file a new bug report for the Asterisk::AGI perl module? Please make sure to have it block this bug, and attach each file separately (not as a tarball).

Asterisk::AGI perl module and friends

Please, never ever attach tarballs...

This ebuild does not appear to still be viable for the Portage tree. Asterisk@home went defunct and became trixbox, which in turn went defunct and became Fonality.

Asterisk has had major changes since Asterisk@Home with dev's failing to migrate Trixbox into FreePBX 1.8 attempting so now would be a large futile under taking. Since this package is incompatible with current asterisk releases it lacks dependency availability (requires ancient dependencies that are no long available).

I endorse these findings.
