xdm error (pid 4000): can't execute "/usr/lib/X11/xdm/Xsetup_0" (err 2) can you run `equery files xdm` please? Josh, I seem to recall mentioning that a number of the files moved to /usr/lib/X11/xdm should stay there because they're scripts, not configuration files. But I see that they've been moved back to /etc. (In reply to comment #1) > xdm error (pid 4000): can't execute "/usr/lib/X11/xdm/Xsetup_0" (err 2) > > can you run `equery files xdm` please? * Contents of x11-apps/xdm-0.99.3_p20051113: /etc /etc/X11 /etc/X11/xdm /etc/X11/xdm/GiveConsole /etc/X11/xdm/TakeConsole /etc/X11/xdm/Xaccess /etc/X11/xdm/Xreset /etc/X11/xdm/Xresources /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession /etc/X11/xdm/Xsetup_0 /etc/X11/xdm/Xstartup /etc/X11/xdm/Xwilling /etc/X11/xdm/xdm-config /etc/pam.d /etc/pam.d/xdm /usr /usr/bin /usr/bin/xdm /usr/bin/xdmshell /usr/lib /usr/lib/X11 /usr/lib/X11/app-defaults /usr/lib/X11/app-defaults/Chooser /usr/lib/X11/xdm /usr/lib/X11/xdm/Xsession /usr/lib/X11/xdm/chooser /usr/lib/X11/xdm/libXdmGreet.a /usr/lib/X11/xdm/libXdmGreet.la /usr/lib/X11/xdm/libXdmGreet.so /usr/lib/X11/xdm/pixmaps /usr/lib/X11/xdm/pixmaps/xorg-bw.xpm /usr/lib/X11/xdm/pixmaps/xorg.xpm /usr/share /usr/share/man /usr/share/man/man1x /usr/share/man/man1x/xdm.1x.gz /etc /etc/X11 /etc/X11/xdm /etc/X11/xdm/Xaccess /etc/X11/xdm/Xresources /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers /etc/X11/xdm/xdm-config /etc/pam.d /etc/pam.d/xdm /usr /usr/bin /usr/bin/xdm /usr/bin/xdmshell /usr/lib /usr/lib/X11 /usr/lib/X11/app-defaults /usr/lib/X11/app-defaults/Chooser /usr/lib/X11/xdm /usr/lib/X11/xdm/GiveConsole /usr/lib/X11/xdm/TakeConsole /usr/lib/X11/xdm/Xreset /usr/lib/X11/xdm/Xsession /usr/lib/X11/xdm/Xsetup_0 /usr/lib/X11/xdm/Xstartup /usr/lib/X11/xdm/Xwilling /usr/lib/X11/xdm/chooser /usr/lib/X11/xdm/libXdmGreet.a /usr/lib/X11/xdm/libXdmGreet.la /usr/lib/X11/xdm/libXdmGreet.so /usr/lib/X11/xdm/pixmaps /usr/lib/X11/xdm/pixmaps/xorg-bw.xpm /usr/lib/X11/xdm/pixmaps/xorg.xpm /usr/share /usr/share/man /usr/share/man/man1x /usr/share/man/man1x/xdm.1x.gz w/o gentoo.patch Hmm, I don't recall that, sorry. Is the patch-less behaviour what you were intending? I would intend that xdm-run scripts go in /usr/lib/X11/xdm and configuration files go in /etc. If that's not how it works, please change it. Alright, patch is dropped. Locations should be correct now; give it a try. Oh, for clarity, the patch is dropped in -r1. (In reply to comment #6) > Alright, patch is dropped. Locations should be correct now; give it a try. Build and runs fine, thanks. Just two question remaining: When I cleaned my /etc/X11/xdm directory I found a left-over authdir directory, that is neither created in /etc/X11/xdm nor in /usr/lib/X11/xdm as you see in my equery outputs. Could it be from an older xdm? Obviously its not needed, as I could start xdm now also after removing the authdir directory. Second thing is probably for upstream. During run of configure I've seen the statement "XDM_LDFLAG" command not found. Didn't hurt either but just to mention it. From my side feel free to close the bug, thanks again (In reply to comment #8) > Build and runs fine, thanks. Ok, the authdir is created at runtime by xdm, so everything is fine :-)) > During run of configure I've seen the statement "XDM_LDFLAG" command not found.
Ya, this is an upstream issue, but not currently fatal as far as I can tell.
Might just be a common autotools issue.
I'll close this bug, but I think some of these script paths are being disputed
upstream so don't be surprised if they change again.
