Adding a note on how to configure dmix *and* applications correctly should be great, too. Since alsa/1.0.9 (iirc) dmix is used by default, but when you want some application to use "second soundcard", you tell it to use device like "hw:1.0" which is not dmixed. Any of you with two sound cards? I don't have two (tried, but couldn't get my hands on one..) and without that I really can't do much on this bug. (In reply to comment #2) > Any of you with two sound cards? Yup. I haven't figured out any way to fix comment 1 yet, though. If you only need examples about how to set up different sound output in applications, I might help you. Hello, I've been working on a new ALSA guide that describes how to do multiple sound cards very easily on the wiki. Maybe we can merge the two documents. http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_ALSA_Complete_%28includes_dmix%29 Section #2 would be the part in question. I think this can be resolved rather easily. --Jason Weisberger jbdubbs@gmail.com hi all; i have started effort on adding a new section to alsa-guide.xml and so writing the requested info in this bug (since i had one two) (gaming and music at the same time); but since i stopped that i don't use it anymore. first draft expected *soon* greetings diox Well, I've since updated the ALSA guide to include a new bit about support for multiple sound cards, so do take that into account. And, if you ask flameeyes very nicely, he might even help out a little --- he runs multiple sound cards it seems, and certainly knows how to set them up. Dimitri Got more news on the update? I can merge some information from the Internet with the guide but am not in the position to test it. Given comment #6, with the blessings of fox2mike I hereby close this bug. All hail! |
