The ghostscript package is dependant on sys-libs/glibc  .  It is not listed as a 
dependancy under ghostscript ebuild. 
I had a problem with ghostscript after I installed a new version of glibc.  Ghostscript was 
not rebuilt and broke.

ok, added it to the DEPEND list, but it won't rebuild automatically anyway, just
yet.   That is a portage feature still in the works.
