After I upgraded to 1.0.6-r1 (testing) with mozilla-launcher-1.39, Thunderbird does not start. When I launch it from console, the thunderbird-bin process starts, but the application interface does not show up at all. I tried to delete the .thunderbird directory, so that it would start with a clean profile, but still no luck. Previously, I used 1.0.6 (testing) with no problems at all. mozilla-thunderbird-bin-1.0.6 does not work either. helios ~ # emerge --info Portage 2.0.51.22-r2 (default-linux/x86/2005.0, gcc-3.3.5-20050130, glibc-2.3.5-r0, 2.6.12-gentoo-r6 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.12-gentoo-r6 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2600+ Gentoo Base System version 1.6.13 dev-lang/python: 2.3.5 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.11 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r6 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.5 sys-devel/binutils: 2.15.92.0.2-r10 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.18-r1 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/env /usr/kde/3.4/share/config /usr/kde/3.4/shutdown /usr/kde/3 /share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/sh are/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://ftp.gtlib.cc.gatech.edu/pub/gentoo http://csociety-ftp.ecn.purdue.edu/pub/gentoo/ http://gentoo.se ren.com/gentoo http://gentoo.chem.wisc.edu/gentoo/ http://cudlug.cudenver.edu/gentoo/ http://gentoo.mirrors.pair.com/ ft p://gentoo.agsn.ca/ http://mirror.datapipe.net/gentoo http://linux.rz.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/download/gentoo-mirror/ http:// ftp.uni-erlangen.de/pub/mirrors/gentoo ftp://ftp.join.uni-muenster.de/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo http://mirrors.sec. informatik.tu-darmstadt.de/gentoo/ http://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/ http://ftp.ntua.gr/pub/linux/gen too/ http://ftp.ceid.upatras.gr/pub/linux/gentoo http://gentoo.math.bme.hu http://ftp.heanet.ie/pub/gentoo/ http://ftp.s nt.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/gentoo http://mirror.gentoo.no/ http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/www.ibiblio.org/gentoo/ ht tp://mirror.etf.bg.ac.yu/gentoo http://mirror.isp.net.au/pub/gentoo/ http://gentoo.osuosl.org/ http://adelie.polymtl.ca/ ftp://gentoo.risq.qc.ca/" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 3dnow 3dnowext X a52 acl acpi alsa apache2 apm arts avi berkdb bitmap-fonts bonobo bzlib caps cdr crypt cups cu rl doc dvd dvdr dvdread eds emboss encode esd exif fam fbcon flac foomaticdb fortran gd gdbm gif gimpprint glx gnome gnu tls gphoto2 gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 gtkhtml guile iconv imagemagick imlib ipv6 java jpeg junit kde kdeenablefinal ldap li bg++ libwww mad mikmod mime mmx mmxext motif mozilla mp3 mpeg mysql ncurses nls nptl ogg oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl png ppds python qt quicktime readline samba sdl slang spell sse ssl svga tcltk tcpd tetex tiff truetype truetype-f onts type1-fonts unicode userlocales vorbis xine xml xml2 xmms xprint xv xvid zlib userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc " Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, LINGUAS, MAKEOPTS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY
Yeah, this was totally my screwup. I've been doing so much work on these ebuilds in the past few days that I misplaced a file. Fixed in 1.0.6-r2, I believe. Please try it and let me know.
ATM I am having the same bug ... started esync ... more news in 1h after update. (at least I can confirm the bug is not isolated on one particular box)

Please try it and let me know. I think it's fixed for me. I tested it from work, but I'll have to go home and test it more thoroughly (the PC is at home).
yes, upgrade to 1.0.6-r2 did solve thta for me. Please close the bug.
for me thunderbird-1.0.6-r2 still doesn't work... still the same behaviour. allready wipe my users ~/.thunderbird folder - but no change at all
some additional information: invocation via the icon/kde menu fails - but I can startup it via the command line... aaron@therion /usr/lib/mozilla-thunderbird $ ./run-mozilla.sh ./thunderbird-bin (thunderbird-bin:18405): Gdk-WARNING **: gdk_property_get(): length value has wrapped in calculation (did you pass G_MAXLONG?) *** loading the extensions datasource *** ExtensionManager:_updateManifests: no access privileges to application directory, skipping. No problems at all. Olaf, before starting-up thunderbird, make sure that no process of it is left from a previous invocation and one does, kill it. Yesterday, when I tried starting Thunderbird, it would not close the processes it opened and I had to kill them by hand.
you were true, there was a dead process lurking in the background I had missed... so - ignore me - and close the bug.

yes
Bug closed. 1.0.6-r2 ebuild solved the problem.
