Hi, This is the second time this problem has arisen with the /etc/profile that is provided by a new baselayout (1.11.13 this time). Basically, something is not right with /etc/profile and, hence, when you try to enter a shell, it hangs and does nothing. You can control-C to get out, but, unless you have a working /etc/profile backed up, you can hardly do anything easily. This really should be checked more thoroughly before marking it as stable. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Either bring up a console, log in, or type source /etc/profile 2. 3. Actual Results: It hangs until you hit control-c Expected Results: Normal functionality with respect to the bash shell.
funny it works for everyone else try running `bash -x` and see where the loop comes from
get back to us
Sorry to say that I don't have the /etc/source that was causing the problem on my computer anymore. If you could post it as an attachment, I'd be happy to help debug it.
uhh, i cant post my /etc/profile because it works just fine
